A left-back on Leeds United’s radar has reportedly turned down a move to Turkish giants Besiktas, increasing the likelihood of a transfer to the Championship, with Leeds competing against another club for his signature.
Leeds are expected to pursue a new left-back this summer, as they currently have limited options on both sides of the defense. Manager Daniel Farke has seen several full-backs depart this summer. Connor Roberts has returned to Burnley, and Jamie Shackleton, Rasmus Kristensen, Luke Ayling, and Archie Gray have all left. This leaves Leeds with just three players to cover both right-back and left-back positions.
Additionally, Firpo might also leave, given that his contract is set to expire next summer. Presently, Jayden Bogle and Firpo are the first-choice full-backs, with Sam Byram providing cover.
Leeds Interested in Serie A Left-Back
One player linked to Leeds is AC Milan defender Fode Ballo-Toure. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League but only featured in eight games for Marco Silva’s side. Despite his limited game time at Fulham and Milan’s apparent lack of need for him, Ballo-Toure, who earns £23k-a-week, has an impressive resume that includes stints at Lille, Monaco, PSG, and Milan.
With Ballo-Toure entering the final year of his contract at Milan, a move seems imminent, and Leeds are keen to add him to their roster.
Fode Ballo-Toure Rejects Besiktas
According to a report from Calcio Mercato, Ballo-Toure has declined an offer to join Turkish side Besiktas, despite Milan and the Super Lig club agreeing on a financial package for him. This decision paves the way for a move to England.
It is reported that Ballo-Toure is now likely to join a club in the second tier of English football, with Leeds among the interested parties. However, Leeds face stiff competition from Watford, who are currently leading the race to sign him.
It remains to be seen if Leeds will act on their interest in the Senegalese international. With his contract set to expire next summer and minimal prospects of game time at Milan, it appears likely that Ballo-Toure will be on the move soon.
