Sheffield Wednesday is eager to secure Ike Ugbo for a permanent return to Hillsborough after his impressive loan spell last season. However, finalizing the deal has proven challenging, causing concern as the new Championship season approaches.

Manager Danny Rohl is exploring other options, including former EFL standout Sory Kaba, who is currently with La Liga’s Las Palmas. Kaba, a 6-foot-3 striker, is reportedly not in the plans of new Las Palmas manager Luis Miguel Carrión, especially after the club signed former Sheffield United player Oli McBurnie.

Reports from Africa Foot indicate that Sheffield Wednesday is in talks over a loan-to-buy deal for Kaba. Other clubs like Leeds United, Hull City, and Birmingham City have shown interest, but Wednesday is currently in the lead to sign the Guinean forward. Kaba is seen as a strong alternative to Ugbo if a deal with Troyes for the former Chelsea player cannot be reached.

Kaba had a memorable loan spell at Cardiff City, becoming a fan favorite by scoring spectacular goals, despite his brief stay. Wednesday hopes he can replicate his EFL success if they manage to sign him.

While Kaba had a difficult season in Spain, scoring only two goals in 20 appearances, he previously demonstrated his finishing prowess in the Championship with eight goals in 17 appearances for Cardiff. His goal-scoring rate in the EFL was better than Ugbo’s combined record for Cardiff and Wednesday last season, and his physical presence made him a formidable opponent in the Championship.

Football pundit Clinton Morrison praised Kaba’s goal-scoring abilities, calling one of his Cardiff strikes “fantastic.” If Kaba can rediscover his form under Rohl, he could be an excellent addition for Sheffield Wednesday, providing a valuable alternative if the Ugbo deal falls through.
