Breaking News: Coventry City Launches Audacious £3m Hijack Attempt to Thwart Hull City Deal as Leeds United Triggers Shock Move for Ex-Liverpool and Rangers Star

August 1, 2024

Coventry City have reportedly emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign West Bromwich Albion striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, beating out Championship rivals Hull City.

Hull City had reportedly put in a successful £3m bid for the Ghanaian international, aiming to secure his services by the end of the week. However, reports now indicate that Coventry City have matched this bid and are set to finalize the deal soon. Thomas-Asante is expected to undergo a medical at Coventry’s training ground, becoming their fifth signing of the summer, following additions like Oliver Dovin, Luis Binks, Jack Rudoni, and Raphael Borges.

Mark Robins, Coventry’s manager, seems close to sealing the deal with Thomas-Asante, who had an impressive season with West Brom, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 43 appearances. This setback for West Brom comes after their bid to return to the Premier League through the Championship playoffs was dashed by Southampton in a semi-final defeat.

On the other hand, Hull City will now shift their focus to other transfer targets as they seek replacements for Jaden Philogene and Liam Delap, who recently moved to Aston Villa and Ipswich Town, respectively.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are also active in the transfer market, reportedly making an offer for former Liverpool and Rangers winger Ryan Kent. After several departures from their squad, including notable names like Archie Gray and Glen Kamara, Leeds have already secured new signings like Joe Rothwell, Alex Cairns, Jayden Bogle, and Joe Rodon. The club’s interest in Kent has reignited, with talks ongoing with Fenerbahce, where the player currently plies his trade. Leeds are optimistic about landing the 27-year-old winger as they seek to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Leeds United is reportedly interested in Norwich City midfielder Gabriel Sara, who is said to have been the target of a recent £5 million bid from the club. The Brazilian talent has also attracted attention from several other teams, including Galatasaray, Roma, and Crystal Palace.
