Rumored Coventry City target Nicolas Madsen, who currently plies his trade at Belgian club Westerlo, has expressed his eagerness to step up to a higher playing level amidst talks linking him to the Championship outfit.
The 24-year-old Danish midfielder, standing at an imposing 6ft 3in, is no stranger to a couple of Coventry City players. Madsen previously shared the field with Milan van Ewijk during a loan spell at Dutch club Heerenveen and was also teammates with Victor Torp at Danish side Midtjylland.
Reports from Belgium suggest that Madsen, a versatile box-to-box midfielder who notched an impressive 14 goals in 35 appearances last season, may be on the verge of departing Westerlo for England, as Coventry City have reportedly expressed interest in him.
Addressing the buzz surrounding his potential move, Madsen disclosed to Gazet Van Antwerpen, “I am aware of concrete interest from clubs in other leagues. My agent is handling everything. I harbor great ambition and believe I am prepared for a higher-caliber club. This prospective transfer might just be a pivotal one in my career.”
Remaining committed to giving his best while at Westerlo, Madsen emphasized the importance of all parties involved reaching an agreement for any move to transpire smoothly. He hinted at the possibility of a transfer during the winter window if the pieces don’t align as expected.
Madsen has also been associated with interest from Anderlecht, a club known for its Danish player contingent. Responding to this speculation, he quipped, “Looking to strengthen Anderlecht’s Danish connection? Well, they know who to ring.”
Coventry City’s Head of Recruitment, Dean Austin, has been actively scouting European talent, as evidenced by recent signings like Tatsuhiro Sakamoto from the Belgian top division, Van Ewijk from Heerenveen, and Torp from Sarpsborg.
