Brest’s attacking midfielder Karamoko Dembele is drawing interest from Derby County and Birmingham City this summer, with pundit Carlton Palmer suggesting that Birmingham could gain a strategic advantage by having Karamoko’s brother, Siriki Dembele, in their team.
Birmingham may propose the idea of playing with his brother to Karamoko, but the allure of joining Birmingham could diminish if Siriki is transferred this month. Blackburn Rovers have also shown interest in Siriki, while Karamoko reportedly prefers a move to the Championship this summer, with Derby County looking to outmaneuver Birmingham in securing his signature.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer noted the competition between Derby and Birmingham for the talented 21-year-old Karamoko Dembele.
Palmer stated, “Dembele impressed during his loan spell at Blackpool in League One last season, attracting significant interest. Derby is keen on striking a deal with his club Brest, but Birmingham City is banking on the influence of Siriki Dembele, who currently plays for them, to sway Karamoko’s decision in their favor.
“Playing at a higher level, especially in the Championship with Derby, might be pivotal given his standout performances in League One. The potential sale of his brother could weaken Birmingham’s position, so the decision remains up in the air.
“Choosing between the allure of joining Derby in the Championship and teaming up with his brother at Birmingham for a shot at promotion presents a tough choice.”
