Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that Luton Town made a late bid for Posh winger Kwame Poku during the recent transfer window. Luton’s interest in Poku stemmed from their need to replace Chiedozie Ogbene, who was sold to Ipswich Town for a reported fee of £8m.
While Luton had been previously linked with Norwich winger Abu Kamara, they also had their sights set on the 23-year-old Poku, who has been a key player for Peterborough since joining from Colchester United in August 2021. Poku, a Ghana international with promising stats, including 20 goals in 131 appearances for Posh, caught Luton’s attention with his impressive performances.
Despite Luton’s bid for Poku, Peterborough stood firm in their decision not to sell the talented winger. MacAnthony shared that the offer made by Luton was substantial, including potential add-ons, but Peterborough’s commitment to retaining their under-24 star remained unwavering. MacAnthony affirmed that if a deal were to happen, it would likely be settled at a tribunal in the following year.
In the end, Luton’s pursuit of Kwame Poku ended in disappointment as Peterborough rebuffed their advances, signaling their determination to hold onto one of their key assets for the foreseeable future.
