In a scathing response on talkSPORT, Martin O’Neill dismantled Graeme Souness over his recent remarks regarding Celtic and Rangers. Following Celtic’s commanding 3-0 victory over Rangers in the latest Old Firm derby, O’Neill emphasized the clear divide between the two sides, contrary to Souness’ suggestion that the gap could narrow if Rangers invested around £50 million in their squad. With five consecutive home wins at Celtic Park and Brendan Rodgers’ impressive record in Old Firm clashes, O’Neill dismissed Souness’ claims as self-deception, stating, “There’s a chasm between them.”

O’Neill’s critique stands on solid ground, affirming that the current state of affairs places Celtic leagues ahead of Rangers. While Rangers showed promise last season in closing the gap, their challenge dwindled towards the end. In contrast, Celtic’s exceptional form and tactical prowess under Rodgers have seen them surge ahead with a winning mentality and strategic recruitment.

Notably, financial stability plays a vital role in this footballing equation. Rangers’ managerial instability and organizational challenges have hindered their progress, while Celtic’s consistent domestic success and smart signings underline their superior standing. While the landscape may shift in the coming years, for now, Celtic reign supreme over their rivals, illustrating their dominance and strategic prowess in Scottish football.
