Despite the Canaries putting an end to the Rams’ flawless home record in the Championship, the outcome was shrouded in controversy. The validity of Borja Sainz’s first goal was brought into question as TV replays indicated that Josh Sargent’s cross had gone out of play.
Additionally, the third goal from Norwich’s winger should have been a corner kick for Derby, an oversight missed by the match officials. Nonetheless, Warne, in his post-match remarks, opted for a measured approach, expressing his frustration with the decisions made.
“The officials were in close proximity for the first incident, weren’t they?” Warne remarked. “I am disheartened that they missed it, but they can only judge based on what they witness. It’s frustrating. While there’s often gamesmanship and theatrics in football, players’ reactions typically give away when something is amiss at any level.”
