Corberan was adamant that his side deserved a penalty during the game, pointing to an alleged foul on Darnell Furlong by Todd Cantwell in the box. The contentious moment left Corberan bewildered by Busby’s decision, claiming the referee lacked understanding of the situation. The match itself was a tightly contested affair with few opportunities for either team to break the deadlock, ultimately resulting in a stalemate.
Despite efforts from Furlong and Torbjorn Heggem in the first half and Joe Rankin-Costello’s attempts for Blackburn, it was the disputed penalty incident involving Grady Diangana and Furlong that sparked controversy. Corberan insisted that Diangana’s delivery to Furlong should have resulted in a penalty kick after an alleged foul, but Busby’s failure to act left Albion frustrated and empty-handed.
The disappointing draw extends Albion’s winless run to five games, a stark contrast to their strong start to the season, where they secured five wins in their opening six matches. The recent slip in form has seen them earn only three points from their last 15 available, raising concerns about their position in the league standings.
Albion have scored just one goal in their last four games, struggling to capitalize on their opportunities. When Cardiff City visits the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon, they will be aiming to improve their conversion rate. Despite not finding the winning goal against Rovers, Corberan was content with his team’s performance at Ewood Park, mentioning, “It was probably a fair result. We had to put in an incredible amount of effort to secure a point. We did have chances to score. I really appreciate the effort the players put in tonight to earn that point.”
