Former scout Mick Brown revealed that David Moyes could be eyeing a managerial role at Wolverhampton Wanderers should they part ways with Gary O’Neil amidst mounting pressure at Molineux. The experienced Scottish coach, described as “incredible,” has been on the sidelines since leaving West Ham United at the close of the previous season and is now linked with a surprising comeback to the Premier League just a couple of months into the current campaign.
Moyes faced scrutiny during his tenure at West Ham due to a string of poor results despite securing Conference League triumph in 2023. Brown expressed that Moyes’s arrival could benefit Wolves, currently languishing in 19th place in the league after nine matches and leaking goals excessively:
“When you’re in the position they’re in, without a win in nine games, you can’t afford to have all these airs and graces about playing pretty football.”
The scout noted that Wolves’ struggles primarily stem from defensive frailties rather than poor overall performances. The team managed to salvage a draw against Brighton with late heroics, lifting them off the bottom of the table, but they are still four points away from safety and among the winless trio in the league, alongside Ipswich Town and Southampton.
Wolves have endured the worst defensive record in the top flight, conceding 25 goals in their opening nine fixtures, five more than the next weakest side. While their attacking prowess has shown promise with 12 goals scored, the defensive lapses have overshadowed their efforts.
With crucial fixtures against Crystal Palace and Southampton on the horizon, Wolves will be aiming to turn their fortunes around under the potential guidance of Moyes, who could potentially strengthen their defensive organization and resilience.
