Sources indicate that Wanderers are keen on signing a young star from Sunderland, Chris Rigg, in the up coming transfer windows. However, that could be a pipe dream for the team’s managers as the 17-year-old talent seems to be eyeing a move to bigger club, in the words of the Fottball Insider’s Pete O’Rourke. Although Wolves exercised their keen interest in Rigg, other giant clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester united and Real Madrid are equally shown certain interest on Rigg because of his marvelous display at the venue known as stadium of light.
More so, Sunderland has a contract with Rigg that will elapse in 2027, and the club can’t afford to let go of potential talent. This season the youngster has played most of the season for the black cats in the premier league playing 14 games and scoring 3 goals. Some of the recognitions he gets when playing are results of his hard work like when got the young player of the month at the Championship in September displaying his ability & prospect in that games.
At present team Black Cats free style head coach is Regis Le Bris and Rigg is one of the regular players of the team even though he is very young. Le Bris praised Rigg for hard-working ethic and for studying the game in order to become better, thus he noted that the latter is a very positive influence in the team. At the moment, Sunderland sits atop the Championship table, so the club will not seriously consider offers for Rigg during the January window but may explore next year after a season of performances.
Nevertheless, the constant interest of the Championship clubs this season is interesting because they know that they want to try to buy Rigg and also because of his talent and potential. Interest from Wolves continues to be vigorous, but the prospect of playing for fellow Premier League teams might keep the wonderkid from choosing Wolves, which could be a let down for them.
