Following Derby County’s failure to beat Swansea at Pride Park 2-1, they have had to pay the price for the slow start which gifted the opponent a first half lead. Zan Vipotnik and Ronald scored in the first fifteen minutes leaving the Rams with a herculean task of trying to catch up.
The Rams fought back strongly in the second half when Jackson came close to equalising when he hit the woodwork and Mendez-Laing scored a penalty. The head coach Paul Warne said the reason his team lost is that they were passive and did not show aggression which was far from satisfactory.
Warne also complimented Swansea on their mastery and recognized, quite wisely, that once in a while a goal like that can be the difference maker in a game. Even if Derby competed better in the later stages the team realized that they had put themselves too far behind to catch up.
Looking at the game Warne argued that the team was quite wanting for most of the match until the last ten minutes but noted that the team’s problem was in begining the game insisting that they have learnt a very big lesson on the likes of Championship compared to League One. However, Warne thanked his players for their good attempt and dedication throughout the 50 overs they played on the field.
