With the latest defeat to fellow strugglers Everton, Gary O’Neil is now dancing on thin ice at the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Aston Villa, currently remains at the 19th position in the table, which has the highest goal rate in the leagues, a recent 4-0 loss to Blackburn, yet O’Neil remains at the managerial position of the club.
Board of directors was too surprised to see him sticking around after the defeat by the time the team had not been in good performance. In the light of the next game against West Ham, it looks like O’Neil is on the edge waiting whether he will continue playing for his club or not.
Despite the fans and critics clamoring for his dismissal now, it seems there are more troubling problems within the Wolves franchise than merely insistence upon sacking their manager. As a result, the club’s miserly attitude to buying players, with an accumulative net spend over the last five seasons of only £19m, is a major problem in the pursuit of the best managers.
There are always potential candidates like Graham Potter or David Moyes but the self-financed ‘Wolves’ model of football under present ownership becomes difficult to attract a new head coach. This financial problem added to doubtful player attitude gives an illusion of a club which not only lacks fortune on the pitch, but also off the pitch.
The table position shows that Old Gold is in a volatile position with appointing another inexperienced manager. If Fosun does not change their transfer policy, they might not be able to hunt for such talent.
