Wolves forward Matheus Cunha set for an FA investigation after obscene touchline incident
Wolves striker Matheus Cunha is under the probe of the Football Association following a scuffle in the dressing room with an Ipswich staff member after the 2-1 loss at Molineux. It happened at the final whistle of the match when Cunha was caught on camera shoving a member of Ipswich Town’s security team and seemingly taking glasses off his face.
The FA is now waiting for the match referee Simon Hooper if he will add the incident on his match report to open an investigation. From ex Premier League match official Mike Dean: could be in trouble for ‘elbows the back of the head of one of the Ipswich coaches,’ and ‘pulls his glasses off’ and throws them to the pitch.
The foul was a culmination of a wild ending of the game that erupted into a brawl that sent off Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri and was holding by his teammate, Craig Dawson. Wolves manager Gary O’Neil accused his players of poor discipline and said that they should ‘do a better job of managing themselves’, adding that Ait-Nouri’s red card incident was ‘completely avoidable’.
O’Neil also admitted that his side is under pressure though he wants his players to keep their calm. ‘We are trying to take the group beyond our level and you cannot get yourself in trouble,’ he said.
The loss leaves Wolves stuck bottom of the table, and four more points away from the seventeenth position. The team will now face Leicester City next Sunday without Ait-Nouri, who has been given a one-match ban for receiving a red card.
