What an astounding confession: The VAR team was wrong in the season’s Premier Sports Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers – according to the Scottish referee Willie Collum. The two sides had several challenges but the most contentious moment was the foul by Celtic’s Liam Scales on Rangers’ Vaclav Cerny in extra-time what many expected a penalty for Rangers.
Collum was not the referee of the match, but he was in the Scottish FA’s VAR Review show when speaking out that the VAR team was actually wrong and that a penalty should have been signaled. He said that holding incident which started outside of the area but extended in to the penalty area was the reason for the ruling.
Collum stated that the exact position of which Cerny had a foot was unimportant because that holding motion was the main issue. He also pointed out that British Nigeria wasclean and obviously inside the area for a foul hence regarded the overturn as factual and should have catalyse for a penalty.
The VAR team blunder has elicited criticism as to the efficiency of the software system. That has also seen the air dashed to the VAR team from being involved in action this week.
