Luton Town manager Rob Edwards immediately cupped his ears and accepted that his side was lucky to secure the 2-1 victory against Derby County, saying that the team got a shade of fortune in the game.
Blind volley from Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu in added time and a late added time penalty from Carlton Morris that equalised Kayden Jackson’s second half header at the Kenilworth Road’s.
Edwards spoke to Sky Sports after the match and declare that he is relieved and happy for his lads for having worked very hard and not giving up until the final whistle. They are safe words any manager would like to hear, and I suppose I’m a relieved manager right now as sure as I’m happy. It’s credit to the lads. We are struggling at the moment we are warring. We cannot say ‘This is how we want it to be’ but sometimes these are the situations you find yourself in,” he said.
This was the second successive home win for Luton built from behind for the second home game in succession after the Stoke City match. Edwards agreed with this result by saying that; “We made changes, we had to make changes, and then we had to make a lot of subs too, and I thought quite brave ones, and they found a way.” I’m not sure they were the prettiest of goals but we had a little bit of luck and, yes, we managed it.”
Edwards also said that he sympathized with his counterpart who was inside the cage, Paul Warne. I understand about that – it must break their hearts but it is a good way for us to lift the trophy and have everybody leave the field smiling and ready for Christmas.
However, getting the three points, Edwards knows that his team has a problem with consistency, especially when some of the main players are not in the line and when morale is low. But he is encouraged by the spirit of the team that has scored winning goals in both of the last two matches at home.
