Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have gone head-to-head over their predictions for Nottingham Forest’s clash with Sunderland this weekend.

New Forest boss Ange Postecoglou is still searching for his first victory since taking charge, and Saturday night’s meeting at the City Ground offers him another chance to finally get off the mark. But not everyone agrees on how things will play out.

Carragher backs Forest, Neville calls a draw

When asked for his thoughts on the game, Carragher was quick to back the hosts. “I can’t see Sunderland winning at Forest,” he said, predicting a 2-1 home win.

Neville, however, initially disagreed, tipping the contest to end in a 2-2 draw. Carragher challenged him on that view, and after some back-and-forth the former Manchester United defender eventually conceded, accepting Carragher’s 2-1 prediction — but not before his original call stirred debate.

Neville isn’t the most popular figure among Forest supporters, and his hesitation to give them the win will do little to improve that reputation. Carragher, meanwhile, may not be universally liked either, but his faith in Postecoglou’s side will at least have been noted by the City Ground faithful.

Keane, Scott and Wright see it differently

Elsewhere on the pundit panel, Roy Keane, Jill Scott, and Ian Wright all leaned towards a tighter encounter, ultimately settling on a 1-1 scoreline.

Postecoglou will certainly be hoping they’re wrong. The Australian has been under the microscope since his appointment, and with the pressure building after a winless start, three points against Sunderland would be a timely boost
