Crystal Palace Set to SHOCK Everyone with NEW Contract Offer for Glasner’s Favourite Defender

September 25, 2025

Crystal Palace are preparing to secure the future of one of their standout performers with a new contract offer. The South London side have been thriving under Oliver Glasner, winning the FA Cup last season and earning a place in European competition for the first time in years.

The Eagles have carried that momentum into the new campaign, remaining unbeaten despite the high-profile departure of Eberechi Eze. To continue progressing, Palace know they must hold onto the core of their squad. With Marc Guehi tipped to move on in the coming months, ensuring stability around other key figures such as Adam Wharton, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Chris Richards has become a priority.

Richards, in particular, has emerged as one of Glasner’s most trusted defenders. Reports from Football Insider suggest the American centre-back is next in line for a contract extension. Former Premier League scout Mick Brown praised the club’s proactive stance, saying Palace cannot afford to let situations drag on, as has happened with Guehi.

Brown highlighted Richards’ importance to the squad, describing him as “strong in the tackle, dominant in the air, quick, and above all consistent,” adding that it is these qualities that make him invaluable to Glasner’s system. “He may not always be in the spotlight like Guehi or Mateta, but Richards embodies what this team is about—hard work, belief, and ambition,” Brown said.

Richards himself has often spoken positively about his experience at Selhurst Park. In May, he declared: “I think this is the best this club has ever looked, and next season it can only go higher.” He also praised Glasner’s leadership, noting the Austrian’s relentless drive. “He came in with the ambition to make history at Palace, and from day one he’s been pushing us to achieve it. That’s what makes him special.”

The defender is under contract until 2027, but with Palace keen to tie down their key men, an extension could soon be on the horizon—something Richards is likely to welcome.
