Fabio Silva has dismissed suggestions that he deliberately concealed an injury ahead of his summer move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Borussia Dortmund.

The Portuguese striker, who had spent the latter part of last season on loan at Las Palmas, joined Dortmund after making it clear he wanted to end his time at Molineux. However, he has yet to make his debut in Germany, with surgery required shortly after his arrival sidelining him from action.

Reports in Germany claimed Dortmund were caught off guard by the extent of the problem, with some outlets suggesting Silva and his representatives had withheld details to push the transfer through late in the window.

Silva responds to injury rumours

Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, the 22-year-old pushed back against the accusations:

“The situation wasn’t as portrayed in the media. Yes, I had surgery last season, but nothing was ever deliberately concealed. At the time, I was still a Wolves player, and together with the club and those around me, we decided not to make the injury or the procedure public.”

Silva added that he had been upfront with Dortmund once talks progressed. “In my discussions with those in charge, it was clear I wanted to join Dortmund despite other rumours and options. Everyone knew I wouldn’t be able to play straight away. From the moment I arrived, the plan was clear — focus on rehab and take no risks.”

A complicated exit from Wolves

Silva’s departure from Wolves ended a turbulent spell in England, where he never fully settled after his £35 million move from Porto in 2020. Multiple loan spells followed, and his determination to secure a permanent exit paved the way for Dortmund’s late swoop.

While he insists there was no cover-up, questions remain over the communication between the parties involved — and Silva’s defence may not completely silence the scepticism around how his transfer unfolded.
