Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at Nottingham Forest is already under intense scrutiny, and reports suggest a familiar Premier League face could soon replace him.
The Australian coach was appointed following Nuno Espirito Santo’s abrupt dismissal after just three league matches — a move sparked by a reported clash between Nuno and sporting director Edu. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis wasted little time bringing in Postecoglou, hoping his attacking philosophy would steady the club after a turbulent start.
However, things haven’t gone to plan. Postecoglou has failed to deliver a single win in his first seven games in charge, leaving Forest languishing near the bottom of the Premier League table. As the October international break arrives, Marinakis is already believed to be weighing up his options, with the pressure mounting on the former Tottenham Hotspur boss.
Among the potential replacements being discussed is a man with both Premier League and European pedigree — Fulham manager Marco Silva.
Marco Silva emerges as a leading candidate
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Silva is seen as a realistic target should Forest decide to make another managerial change.
“One name to keep an eye on is Marco Silva,” Crook revealed. “It would be difficult to lure him away from Fulham midway through the season, but his contract expires next summer, and I don’t see him staying much longer. He’s been openly frustrated during several transfer windows.”
Crook also highlighted Silva’s existing connection with Marinakis from their time together at Olympiacos, where the Portuguese coach guided the Greek side to a league title. “That relationship could make him a serious contender if Forest pull the trigger,” he added.
Silva’s uncertain future at Fulham
Speculation surrounding Silva’s future has been constant over the past year. The Fulham boss was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer and reportedly agreed terms with Al-Hilal before the deal collapsed, leading the club to hire Simone Inzaghi instead.
Ironically, Silva was also on Tottenham’s shortlist before Postecoglou landed the North London job. Since leaving Everton in 2019, the 47-year-old has rebuilt his reputation impressively, guiding Fulham to Premier League stability and playing an expansive brand of football that has drawn widespread praise.
Many believe his dismissal from Everton came prematurely, and his success at Fulham has only reinforced that view.
For Nottingham Forest, though, the decision now rests with Marinakis. If Postecoglou cannot turn results around soon, Marco Silva — a proven top-flight tactician with a prior connection to the owner — could find himself next in line at the City Ground.
