Nottingham Forest are facing a major decision over the future of manager Ange Postecoglou, whose tenure at the City Ground has yet to deliver the spark many had hoped for.
The Australian coach was appointed early in the campaign, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo after just three matches, but results have continued to slide. Postecoglou is still searching for his first win in charge after seven games, and frustration among supporters is growing.
During Forest’s recent defeat to Midtjylland, chants of “sacked in the morning” echoed around the stands, reflecting the mounting pressure on the 58-year-old.
According to a Football Insider report on October 6, Forest’s board have so far opted for patience, hoping Postecoglou can steady the ship. However, insiders suggest that faith is wearing thin, and the club could soon be forced to act if results fail to improve.
Forest’s patience running out
Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that the situation is reaching a breaking point.
“It’s simple — if the results don’t come, he won’t get the time,” Borson said. “The situation with Postecoglou is coming to a head quickly. The results have been terrible, and if there’s no improvement soon, Forest will likely pay what’s needed and move on.”
Forest’s hierarchy are already weighing up potential replacements, with Marco Silva emerging as a leading contender. The Fulham boss, whose contract expires at the end of the season, reportedly has a release clause of around £8 million.
Silva guided Fulham to an impressive 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season and has earned widespread praise for his work at Craven Cottage. Football Insider previously revealed that Forest had even considered appointing him before turning to Postecoglou in the summer.
Marco Silva compensation no obstacle
Borson believes Forest would have no problem meeting Silva’s compensation fee should they decide to make a change.
“Top managers now come with a price tag of around £8–10 million — that’s just the modern game,” he explained. “Given what clubs spend on players, paying that amount for a manager isn’t unreasonable. If Forest reach the point where they feel Ange can’t turn things around — or has lost the dressing room — they’ll have no choice but to act.”
Dyche also tipped as an option
In addition to Silva, Forest have also been tipped to consider Sean Dyche as a potential successor. The former Burnley and current Everton manager has been described by some insiders as the “perfect” fit to restore discipline and defensive solidity should the club decide to part ways with Postecoglou.
For now, however, Postecoglou remains in charge — but with no wins and the atmosphere souring at the City Ground, it’s clear that time is running out for him to change the narrative.
