Luton Town have officially announced Jack Wilshere as their new manager, beginning a fresh chapter at Kenilworth Road.

The former Arsenal and England midfielder takes over from Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed earlier this month following a 2-0 defeat to Stevenage on October 4.

While Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens was initially linked to the vacancy, the Hatters have instead chosen Wilshere — a bold move that signals a desire for new energy and ideas.

Wilshere’s coaching journey began at Arsenal’s youth academy, where he worked with the club’s underage teams before joining Norwich City’s first-team staff under Johannes Hoff Thorup last season. Now, he is set for his first senior management role.

The club also confirmed that Chris Powell, a vastly experienced coach and former Charlton Athletic boss, will serve as Wilshere’s assistant.

After last season’s relegation from the Championship, Luton entered the new campaign as one of the favourites for promotion. However, inconsistency under Bloomfield left them 11th in the League One table after 11 matches — five points off the play-offs and nine behind leaders Stevenage.

Wilshere’s first game in charge will be on October 18, when the Hatters host Mansfield Town.
