A Pathetic Panic Buy!” – Ipswich & Leicester Shamed for Targeting €3m “Benchwarmer” in Bizarre Transfer Hunt

October 16, 2025

Ipswich Town and Leicester City are both showing interest in Stade Rennais midfielder Glen Kamara, according to Foot Mercato.

Both clubs are targeting a swift return to the Premier League after relegation. Leicester have made the stronger start, sitting third in the Championship with one loss in nine games, while Ipswich head into Friday’s meeting with Middlesbrough unbeaten in five. Neither side plans to slow down, and both are already eyeing potential additions for the January transfer window.

Kamara, a 70-cap Finland international, has endured a tough spell in France since joining Rennes from Leeds United in 2024. He has yet to play a single minute in Ligue 1 this season and has appeared in just two matchday squads. Rennes paid €10 million for him but are now reportedly willing to sell for around €3 million. OGC Nice are also said to hold an interest.

Having proven himself in the Championship with Leeds, Kamara’s name being linked to two promotion contenders comes as little surprise. However, their current squads suggest one destination might offer him more opportunities.

Ipswich look like the more stable and ambitious project, led by Kieran McKenna and backed by solid investment. But with Azor Matusiwa, Jens Cajuste, Marcelino Núñez, Jack Taylor—who recently signed a new deal—and youngster Cameron Humphreys all in midfield, competition for places is intense.

Leicester’s midfield includes Boubakary Soumaré, Harry Winks, Hamza Choudhury, Jordan James, and Oliver Skipp. Soumaré could depart soon, James is only on loan, and Winks’ contract runs until 2026, suggesting more room for Kamara to secure regular minutes at the King Power Stadium.

Ipswich’s squad appears more complete after a busy summer, while Leicester’s financial constraints limited their spending. The Foxes hope to strengthen further in January, potentially adding Kamara and another striker to boost their promotion push.

At a reported €3 million, Glen Kamara could represent a smart, low-risk signing for Leicester City.
