Ange Postecoglou’s short-lived reign at Nottingham Forest came to an abrupt end on Saturday after a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea proved to be the final straw for club owner Evangelos Marinakis. The Greek businessman acted swiftly, dismissing the 60-year-old just minutes after the full-time whistle — bringing to an end a turbulent 39-day spell, the shortest in Premier League history.

Postecoglou’s side had shown promise in the first half at the City Ground, but their familiar struggles in front of goal continued. Josh Acheampong broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, before Pedro Neto and Reece James added two more to compound Forest’s misery. By the time the third goal went in, Marinakis — visibly furious — had reportedly already made up his mind.

A brief 39-word club statement confirmed the Australian’s dismissal shortly after the match:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

Moments later, Gibbs-White was called back into the dressing room before the squad was summoned to a meeting with club officials — believed to have taken place in the boardroom shortly after.

Breach added that Postecoglou appeared calm as he left the stadium:

“We saw Ange go into the home dressing room, then walk through the tunnel with a bag over his shoulder before heading toward the car park. His backroom team remained inside, but by then it was clear his time was up.”

Reports from GIVEMESPORT suggest Forest have already begun talks with Roberto Mancini, while Sean Dyche is another name under consideration — though he is reportedly seeking a long-term deal.
