“I AM FINALLY HAPPY HERE” Ipswich Town 1-0 West Brom: Super-sub Jack Clarke downs Baggies

October 27, 2025

Kieran McKenna’s strategic substitutions paid off handsomely as Jack Clarke secured a late victory for Ipswich against WBA at Portman Road with his fifth goal of the season.

McKenna made decisive changes, bringing on Clarke, Ivan Azon, and Jens Cajuste who combined brilliantly to score within seven minutes. Cajuste’s interception on the edge of the West Brom box set up Azon, whose shot was saved by goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, allowing Clarke to smash the rebound into the net in the 83rd minute.

Ipswich justified their triumph after two consecutive defeats, while West Brom struggled to pose a threat on goal. Ipswich moved to within a point of their opponents, while West Brom remained in 11th place, just two points off the play-off spots.

Following a disappointing loss to Charlton, Ipswich manager McKenna will be pleased with the team’s resurgence and strong performance against West Brom. West Brom managed only one shot on target in the dying moments as they tried unsuccessfully to salvage a draw, having defended resolutely until conceding the crucial goal.

Ipswich dominated play with West Brom adopting a defensive approach and relying on counter-attacks. Jaden Philogene impressed for Ipswich with several chances, including a superb effort saved by Griffiths.

The pressure finally paid off with Clarke’s late strike, sealing Ipswich’s victory in a well-deserved manner. McKenna praised the team’s character and resilience, highlighting the importance of staying united and focused in challenging moments.

In contrast, West Brom boss Ryan Mason reflected on Griffiths’ error that led to Ipswich’s goal, emphasizing the need for improvement and quick learning from mistakes. Mason noted the team’s lack of creativity in the final third and the missed opportunities in the second half.

Ipswich’s hard-fought win showcased their determination and spirit, while West Brom’s defeat highlighted the need for improvements in key areas to secure better results in future matches.
