West Ham’s midfield has been a major concern this season, with Irving, Guido Rodríguez, and Tomáš Souček all coming under fire for underwhelming performances. Despite fan calls for change, both Potter and Nuno have been reluctant to give Freddie Potts consistent minutes — but that could soon change as the Hammers look to shake things up after a dreadful start to the campaign.

Kante’s new contract may signal a shift in approach toward youth, and if he steps up to the senior side, Irving could be the one to make way.

Given his inconsistent displays since joining the Irons, a January departure might suit all parties. The midfielder has struggled to cement his place in the Premier League and could find more success at Championship level.
