Paris Saint-Germain’s calendar has included several high-profile clashes with Premier League sides in recent years, from a FIFA Club World Cup final against Chelsea to a UEFA Super Cup showdown with Tottenham Hotspur. Encounters like these have strengthened the French club’s appeal to English-based players weighing up potential moves abroad.
Although the 2026 summer window is still some way off, major European clubs have already begun shaping their transfer plans. PSG are expected to target midfield recruits from the Premier League, though competition for those players will be intense.
According to a recent report from TBR Football, Crystal Palace are aware that retaining Adam Wharton long-term could prove difficult. The club is exploring a contract extension that would keep him at Selhurst Park until 2027, but interest in the 21-year-old continues to grow. Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all monitoring his progress.
If Wharton opts for a move, clubs outside England will also be in the mix. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG are all believed to be tracking the highly rated midfielder.
Wharton targeting Champions League football
Mirror Football claim that Wharton wants his next club to be one competing in the Champions League. Manchester United have made him their top target, but their prospects of securing Champions League qualification under Ruben Amorim remain uncertain—something that strengthens the appeal of PSG, who remain regular contenders in Europe under Luis Enrique.
Wharton’s agent, James Featherstone, has also made it clear that the player wants to test himself at the highest level. Amid continued speculation, TEAMtalk’s Steve Pearson recently offered his view on which club the youngster should choose if he decides to leave at the end of the 2025–26 season.
“If Wharton lives in the moment, Liverpool is the obvious move,” Pearson wrote. “But if he’s thinking long-term—which his maturity suggests—then Manchester United is the clear choice.
“Wharton is already excellent, but at 21 he still has far more to give. To keep developing at the pace he should, and to bridge the gap from Premier League standout to world-class talent, he needs to start every week. At Anfield, with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister ahead of him, that simply isn’t guaranteed.”
