Tottenham Hotspur will welcome back a key player, as his loan spell at Manchester United has concluded, with the Red Devils opting not to extend his stay.

Sergio Reguilon’s move to Old Trafford emerged as a surprise transfer at the end of last summer, particularly amid Manchester United’s struggles with injuries, notably in the left-back position due to the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

The initial six-month loan deal included the possibility of extending the agreement for the remainder of the season or terminating it in January, a decision to be collectively made by Tottenham, Manchester United, and Reguilon himself, as reported by BILD.

During the first half of the campaign, Reguilon featured in 12 matches for Manchester United across various competitions and managed to endear himself to the club’s supporters. Despite this, speculation has linked the Spanish defender to a potential move to Borussia Dortmund, with the German club expressing a keen interest in securing a six-month loan deal, as suggested by Patrick Berger.

While uncertainties persist regarding Reguilon’s future, it has been confirmed by The Athletic that he will be returning to Tottenham Hotspur, at least for the time being. According to the report, Manchester United has chosen to trigger the “break clause” in Reguilon’s contract, leading to the decision for him to return to Spurs.

Considering that Reguilon’s appearances this season have been exclusively for Manchester United, it remains possible for him to seek another move during the January transfer window if Ange Postecoglou deems his services surplus to requirements once again.
