However, Sutton is having none of the claims that Rangers were “robbed” of the League Cup, pointing out that the Ibrox club conceded three goals and finished second best to Celtic.
Sutton wrote in his Daily Record column, “There’s been some hysterical reaction to Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup Final… Let’s not forget, Rangers conceded three goals and still couldn’t beat a Celtic team that wasn’t firing on all cylinders.”
Sutton also took aim at the narrative that Rangers were somehow robbed of the League Cup, saying, “Are we handing out moral trophies again because Rangers didn’t get pumped? This isn’t the Ibrox club I came up against. They’re using the big decision as a crutch when in reality they finished second best to Celtic once more.”
Sutton’s comments echo those of fellow pundit Kris Boyd, who admitted that Rangers still failed to beat Celtic even when they were not at their best. The former Rangers player said, “Celtic were not at their best, but they still managed to get the win.”
