Sportske Novosti recently revealed that the president of Hajduk Split, Lukša Jakobušić, is determined to secure the signing of Tottenham Hotspur’s Ivan Perišić in the January transfer window. Interestingly, the report also emphasized that financial constraints would not hinder the club’s pursuit of the player.

Perišić, 34, has less than six months left on his contract with Tottenham and has been recovering from a severe knee injury sustained in September. Despite this setback, Hajduk Split remains undeterred in their interest in the experienced winger.

Mindaugas Nikoličius, the sporting director at Hajduk Split, shared insights regarding the club’s plans for the upcoming transfer window in a discussion with the club’s media. He specifically addressed the potential acquisition of Perišić and shed light on ongoing dialogues with Tottenham.

Nikoličius revealed the club’s intention to bolster their squad during the winter transfer period, and notably, highlighted that the Croatian transfer window extends until mid-February. Regarding Perišić’s situation, the Hajduk Split official acknowledged discussions with Tottenham, emphasizing the need to assess the player’s recovery and subsequent availability before making any decisions.

“Ivan is hurt, it’s too early. We have to see when he will recover, when he will be able to run and play,” Nikoličius remarked. “The transfer window here lasts until the middle of February and that is an advantage for us. There is a dialogue with Tottenham and we will make the best decision for everyone.”

Per the report by SportSport, fans of Hajduk Split have expressed their aspirations for the return of the Croatian international to the club. Perišić had previously spent six years in the club’s academy before departing for Sochaux in 2006, thus creating sentimental enthusiasm among supporters for his potential homecoming.
