Done Deal: West Ham ace set for medical at new club in ‘coming hours’ with transfer agreed – report

January 3, 2024

Club is set to welcome a prominent player as he undergoes his medical ahead of a loan move for the remainder of the season, with West Ham consenting to his departure, as per L’Equipe.

In their recent publication on January 3, the French news outlet revealed that the German international defender is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at the Ligue 1 club “in the coming hours” in preparation for his transfer.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that AS Monaco will pay a £433,000 loan fee to secure the services of the former PSG ace, while FootMercato indicates that there is an £8.6m option to buy included in the deal.

Since arriving last summer during a transitional phase for the club, Kehrer has demonstrated promising progress towards establishing himself as a regular feature in the team. Although his performances at centre-back were not exceptional, he displayed greater effectiveness when deployed as a full-back, presenting a strong case for securing a starting role.

However, with Vladimir Coufal reclaiming his top form at right-back, Kehrer found himself relegated to the bench. Additionally, the arrival of Dinos Mavropanos pushed him further down the pecking order at centre-back.

In a sense, Kehrer’s swift decision to seek an exit reflects his desire for regular playing time, especially with Euro 2024 approaching, where he aims to represent his national team in a major tournament in his home country.

While it is a loss for West Ham to part ways with such a quality option from the squad, it remains imperative for David Moyes and the club’s board to secure adequate replacements to avoid any deficiencies in the team.
