Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, has confirmed that forward Alejo Veliz will be sidelined for a minimum of two months following a knee injury sustained in their game against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

The young Argentine striker, who recently scored his debut goal for the club against Brighton, was set to take on a more prominent role with captain Son Heung-min away representing his country at the Asian Cup.

Reports from LondonWorld suggest Veliz was slated to start against Burnley in the FA Cup, but his injury will keep him out for an extended period. Postecoglou expressed his disappointment, stating, “From last week, unfortunately Alejo Veliz suffered a fairly significant injury. He had scans after the game, and it’ll probably keep him out for a couple of months. He won’t need surgery but he’s suffered ligament damage. Disappointed for him because he’s worked hard to get an opportunity in the last couple of weeks and has been growing into it so really disappointed for him. In terms of last week, no one else is an issue on the injury front.”

Furthermore, Postecoglou confirmed that James Maddison is a few weeks away from full recovery, as he has just commenced running sessions with the sports science team. “He’s not training with us yet mate, and I’ve said before until they are training with us, it is hard for me to put a timeline on it. He’s running with the sports science crew but not with us and not likely to be with us in the next couple of weeks, I don’t think.”

The Lilywhites are also contending with injuries to Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, and Micky van de Ven. As they aim to make amends for their early exit in the League Cup, Tottenham will be seeking a more successful campaign in the FA Cup.
