With Chelsea’s season still underwhelming, it seems they’re looking to Brighton for another talent, this time in the form of Georginio Rutter. According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea has added the French forward to their shortlist for upcoming transfer windows, keeping close tabs on his development. Rutter, who’s currently sidelined with an ankle injury, is under contract with Brighton until 2028, but that hasn’t stopped Chelsea from setting their sights on him.
The 22-year-old’s absence has come at a difficult time for Brighton, as the Seagulls have struggled without him. Recent losses to Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, along with a disappointing draw against Leicester, have seen their form dip, making the push for European football even more challenging. Rutter was injured during Brighton’s FA Cup quarter-final penalty shootout loss to Nottingham Forest and is still recovering in a protective boot.

Georginio Rutter’s Steep Price Tag
Rutter joined Brighton last summer in a club-record £40m deal from Leeds United, a move that chief executive Paul Barber admitted made him feel “uncomfortable” given the high price tag. However, with Rutter’s excellent performances so far — contributing eight goals and five assists in all competitions — Brighton’s investment has already paid off. In fact, his value is likely to have soared, making any potential departure a costly one.
As a dynamic No 10, Rutter has been a key figure for Brighton, offering creativity and skill while forging solid partnerships with strikers Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro. His injury, however, has come at a crucial point in the season, when Brighton’s bid for European qualification is at stake.
Brighton remains hopeful they can secure a European spot this season, which would be the perfect stage for Rutter and other sought-after talents like Kaoru Mitoma, Joao Pedro, and Carlos Baleba, who are attracting interest from top clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
