Blackburn Rovers have hit out at the EFL after being told their abandoned Championship clash with Ipswich Town must be replayed in full.

The fixture at Ewood Park was called off on Saturday with just 10 minutes left to play, following torrential rain that left the pitch unplayable. Rovers were leading 1-0 at the time thanks to Todd Cantwell’s penalty, while Ipswich were down to 10 men after Jacob Greaves was shown a red card.

Match officials initially paused play and returned to inspect the surface, but with standing water across the pitch, the decision was made to abandon the contest.

On Wednesday, the EFL confirmed that the game will not be resumed from the point of stoppage and instead will be replayed in its entirety, sparking fury from the Blackburn hierarchy.

In a strongly worded statement, the club said:

“Blackburn Rovers regrettably confirms that the EFL Board has ruled that the Championship fixture against Ipswich Town should be replayed in full at a later date.

At the time of the abandonment, Rovers were leading 1-0 and held a numerical advantage. With only 10 minutes of normal time remaining, we were on course to record a third win in four league matches.”

The statement added that while the club respects the EFL’s review process, it feels the ruling ignores the “significant advantages” Blackburn held on the day.

Rovers also stressed their commitment to competition integrity but confirmed they are seeking further clarity on the decision and are weighing up whether to lodge an appeal.

For now, the Lancashire club remain without a home win this season — and their frustration is clear.
