“Sunderland Lack Ambition!” – Lucrative Offer Rejected as Star Chooses “Fight for Silverware” Over “Meaningless” Black Cats Project

October 14, 2025

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa has been a vital part of Napoli’s midfield since joining from Fulham in 2021, and it appears his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. According to TuttoSport via CalcioNapoli24, the Cameroon international was the subject of several approaches during the summer transfer window — including a late, ambitious move from Sunderland.

The Black Cats reportedly tabled a lucrative offer in hopes of pulling off a surprise deal before the deadline, but their efforts ultimately fell short. AS Monaco and a number of Saudi Arabian clubs were also among those vying for his signature.

However, Zambo Anguissa’s focus remains firmly on competing for major honours with Napoli. Determined to add more silverware to his career, the 29-year-old turned down all advances. Talks are now said to be in the final stages for a new contract that would extend his stay beyond 2027 and include a well-earned pay rise to reflect his importance to the Serie A side.

The dynamic midfielder was instrumental in Napoli’s title-winning campaign, contributing to 11 goals last season and eight during their 2022/23 triumph. While Sunderland’s interest underlines his growing reputation, Anguissa’s ambitions clearly lie at the highest level — not in a Championship rebuild.
