Parish opens up on Guehi’s failed Liverpool switch

The Eagles had been widely tipped to sell Marc Guehi in the summer, with several Premier League heavyweights — including Liverpool — circling. However, the transfer collapsed late on, and chairman Steve Parish has since revealed why he pulled the plug.

“I decided in the end that, based on the advice I got and what I thought, we’d have a better season if we kept Marc,” Parish explained. “If the difference between finishing 10th or 14th was about keeping him or taking the money, then I’d rather keep him.”

That call seems to have paid off. Palace have started brightly, losing just one of their first seven matches and sitting sixth in the Premier League. Still, Guehi’s contract situation means the club could lose him for free next summer, forcing them to plan ahead for a replacement.

Though he’s fallen down the pecking order in Italy this season, the 24-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance. Last term, he earned plaudits for his Champions League display against Manchester City, where he successfully contained Haaland in a 0–0 draw at the Etihad — limiting the Norwegian to just one shot on target.

A towering presence with composure on the ball and Champions League experience, Bisseck could be exactly the kind of statement signing Palace need to reinforce their back line if Guehi departs.
