According to The Athletic, there’s a strong indication that neither Nayef Aguerd nor Maxwel Cornet will depart from West Ham during the January transfer window, despite swirling exit speculations.

Roshane Thomas, in his report on January 8, noted the interest surrounding Aguerd, mentioning potential suitors from an unnamed Saudi club, Roma, and AC Milan. However, it’s deemed “unlikely” that Aguerd will make a move this month. Similarly, Cornet, who was eyed by Everton in the summer under Sean Dyche’s interest, hasn’t received substantial offers and seems poised to stay at West Ham for the season despite limited playing time.

West Ham’s plans to accommodate incoming transfers might face hurdles if Aguerd or Cornet stay put. This could potentially impact moves for Max Kilman from Wolves and Steven Bergwijn from Ajax.

The situation poses frustration if players deemed surplus to requirements remain at the club, potentially hampering desired signings by David Moyes and Tim Steidten.

While Aguerd has seen significant game time, Cornet’s career at the London Stadium struggled to take off, making just 29 appearances over a season and a half. His contributions mainly surfaced in European competitions with six assists, raising questions about his Premier League opportunities despite inconsistencies from other players like Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma.

Despite his hefty price tag of £17.5 million two summers ago, Cornet’s lack of trust from Moyes echoes a similar situation with Flynn Downes, hinting at potential missed opportunities to capitalize on their investments.
