“EFL Shock: Rivals Ready to Swipe Leeds United Star from Under Celtic and Rangers’ Noses!”

January 9, 2024

Leeds United’s star might be on the brink of a departure from the club, with Plymouth Argyle emerging as a potential landing spot.

Despite Leeds boasting depth in their attacking lineup, certain players find themselves short on opportunities, including Joe Gelhardt, who, after significant early-season minutes, now finds himself on the fringes.

Reportedly, Plymouth Argyle, Leeds’ upcoming FA Cup fourth-round adversaries and fellow Championship contenders, have shown interest in acquiring Gelhardt’s services this month, as per Alan Nixon.

The Pilgrims, dealing with loan recalls and managerial changes, seek reinforcements to fend off relegation concerns. Nixon suggests Plymouth stands a solid chance of securing the young striker, considering Leeds wouldn’t want to bolster a promotion rival.

Interest in Gelhardt isn’t confined to the EFL; both Celtic and Rangers from the Scottish Premiership are reportedly monitoring the situation. Despite the Old Firm’s attention, Gelhardt’s growth has suffered due to a lack of regular playing time, whether at Leeds or elsewhere.

If Leeds opt to loan Gelhardt, it’s crucial for him to land somewhere promising regular minutes, possibly Plymouth. Such a move would avoid strengthening a direct promotion competitor, a key concern for the club.
