Next Big Transfer Unveiled for Tottenham Post Dragusin Deal, with Romano Spilling Two Intriguing Details on Loan Exit

January 10, 2024

Tottenham’s transfer saga continues as Radu Dragusin gears up to join, but Fabrizio Romano has disclosed a significant twist in the deal with Genoa regarding Djed Spence’s short-term future, accompanied by a crucial update on his long-term prospects.

Following the recent arrival of Timo Werner on loan, Dragusin is poised to become Spurs’ next addition after the club overcame Bayern Munich in the race for the sought-after center-back.

Tottenham’s offer to Genoa included the transfer of Spence, whose truncated loan spell at Leeds United led to a swift decision by Genoa to welcome the former Middlesbrough talent to Serie A.

In a fresh update, Romano confirmed Spence’s move to Genoa on loan with an option for the Italian club to purchase him at the season’s end for approximately €10m (£8.6m).

This buy option, not an obligation, allows Genoa to assess Spence’s suitability, particularly as they currently lack a dedicated right-back, offering him the chance to compete for a spot.

Surprisingly, despite Spence’s loan move, Tottenham has agreed to continue covering his salary for the entire six-month loan period, as per Romano’s revelations.

This financial commitment by Spurs is part of their intricate bid for Dragusin, further sweetening the deal for Genoa, which might have contributed to its attractiveness.

Tottenham is set to pay Genoa an initial €25m for Dragusin, with potential additional bonuses reaching up to €5m.

Spence’s journey since joining Tottenham 18 months ago has been tumultuous, with only a handful of appearances for the club. His loan spells at Rennes in France and Leeds highlight his struggle to secure regular playing time.

Genoa becomes Spence’s latest destination, where the 23-year-old aims to establish stability after a turbulent period marked by multiple loan moves.

For Spence, with the option to be bought by Genoa, this represents a chance to showcase his potential and potentially bring an end to his nomadic spell as a loanee.
