However, the victory was marred by a disturbing incident involving a small group of Stoke City fans who verbally abused Begovic, their own former player, after the game. The reason for their ire is unclear, but it’s likely due to Begovic’s excellent performance on the pitch.

What’s particularly galling is that Begovic was targeted on social media despite doing everything right. He made great saves, showed respect to the Stoke fans by applauding them, and earned the man-of-the-match award. The abuse he received is a reflection of the toxic minority that sometimes plagues football fandom.

It’s hypocritical of these fans to complain about Begovic’s actions when they’re just as guilty of gamesmanship and time-wasting when it suits them. The fact that they can’t handle a former player doing well against their team is a sign of immaturity.

As for Begovic, he showed class and professionalism throughout the game, and his teammates were right to praise him for his efforts. It’s a shame that a small group of Stoke fans can’t say the same.
