Ipswich Town’s main contender for promotion, Middlesbrough, has made a significant change by appointing Kim Hellberg as their new manager.

Boro was performing well in the Championship under previous manager Rob Edwards, who left the club to join Premier League team Wolves earlier this month. This decision left fans frustrated and forced the club to search for a suitable replacement, with Tony Mowbray being one of the names linked to the position.

Ultimately, Middlesbrough turned to Hellberg, who was previously under contract at Hammarby in Sweden but was in talks to join Swansea City following the sacking of Alan Sheehan. However, Hellberg was persuaded by Boro to take on the role instead. This move marks the first time the 37-year-old will manage outside of Sweden, and he will be bringing his long-time assistant David Selini to work alongside Adi Viveash at Middlesbrough.

While Viveash will remain in charge for the upcoming game against Coventry City, Hellberg is set to meet the players today and take on his new responsibilities.

Currently positioned second in the Championship table, Middlesbrough will face Ipswich Town at Portman Road in April, a highly-anticipated match following their previous encounter where Boro secured a 2-1 victory at the Riverside Stadium.

Meanwhile, Swansea City has appointed Vitor Matos as their new manager after activating his release clause from Maritimo. Matos, who previously served as an elite development coach at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, joins Swansea with a wealth of experience in developing young players. After a successful stint in the Portuguese second tier, Matos is poised to make his mark in the Championship following his move to Swansea.
