The Premier League relegation picture is starting to take shape, and Leeds United are firmly among the clubs battling to stay afloat.
Despite a spirited performance against Arsenal, Wolves appear almost certain to go down. Picking up just two points from 16 matches is a hole that is nearly impossible to climb out of. That leaves the remaining strugglers fighting to avoid finishing 18th or 19th.
Burnley remain rooted in 19th after another defeat at the weekend, sitting on 10 points from 16 games. West Ham are slightly better off in 18th with 13 points. Leeds and Nottingham Forest occupy 16th and 17th respectively, both on 15 points, with a small cushion separating them from Brentford, Bournemouth and Fulham above.
Fulham have surged up the table, climbing from 15th to 13th following a dramatic 3–2 win over Burnley. Once again, Harry Wilson was the driving force for Marco Silva’s side, a painful reminder for Leeds supporters who know just how close their club came to signing the Welsh international on deadline day. Wilson was open to the move, but it never materialised.
Leeds left regretting missed chance on Wilson
Wilson has been directly involved in eight goals across 15 Premier League appearances this season, but his recent form has been particularly eye-catching. In his last four league matches, he has produced three goals and three assists, including a goal and two assists against Burnley.
Leeds worked hard to secure his signature and came close, but Fulham ultimately blocked the deal at the final hurdle. Watching Wilson flourish now is bound to be a source of frustration at Elland Road, knowing they identified the right player but could not get the transfer over the line.
Wilson’s impact could decide survival
Bournemouth may still be hovering above the bottom three, yet many expect them to pull clear. Nottingham Forest are also tipped to improve under Sean Dyche and climb away from danger.
That leaves Fulham, Brentford, Leeds and West Ham as the most likely candidates to occupy 18th and 19th by season’s end. Before the latest round of fixtures, Opta rated Leeds’ chances of relegation at 42 percent.
If Bournemouth and Forest do indeed escape, then two of those four clubs will join Wolves in the drop. Among them, Wilson is currently the standout performer, capable of swinging matches on his own.
There is a real possibility that Leeds’ failure to land him could prove decisive, with Fulham riding Wilson’s form to safety while Leeds are left facing a return to the Championship next May.
