Ipswich Town teenager Jamie Mauge has completed a loan move to Needham Market and marked the occasion with his first appearance for the Southern League Premier Central outfit.

The 18-year-old attacker was named in the starting line-up and played 67 minutes as the Marketmen edged out local rivals Leiston 1-0 in a Suffolk derby.

Mauge is returning to familiar surroundings at Bloomfields, having joined Ipswich from Needham Market’s academy in September 2021. Since then, he has established himself as a regular figure in the Blues’ Under-21 side. This season he has scored five times in all competitions for the development squad managed by John McGreal and Chris Casement, who currently lead the Premier League 2 standings.

A flexible forward, Mauge is the son of former Plymouth Argyle and Trinidad and Tobago international midfielder Ronnie Mauge. He also gained senior experience last season during a loan spell with Bury Town.

He now joins Tom Rothery’s Needham Market side, who are currently occupying a play-off position in the seventh tier of English football.
