Celtic Crisis Erupts as Michael Stewart Calls for Mass Sackings, Claiming Wilfried Nancy ‘Destroyed’ the Hoops

The former midfielder has launched a fiery blast at Celtic and their manager.

Michael Stewart has claimed Wilfried Nancy’s time at Celtic is over, as he fired a heated blast at the Parkhead manager.

The former Columbus Crew head coach launched a passionate defence of his tenure and style prior to Saturday’s derby with Rangers, amid five defeats in seven games. A loss at Motherwell midweek heightened the scrutiny on Nancy, with his three at the back system one of the facets under fire.

Stewart is not buying it though, feeling the Premier Sports Cup final loss against St Mirren was the start of a dangerous road. Even if they manage to defeat Rangers in the Premiership, he sees no way back for the Celtic boss who replaced Brendan Rodgers after Martin O’Neill’s interim stint, and members of the hiring team should also go.

Michael Stewart on Celtic under Wilfried Nancy
In a fiery and lengthy rant on Sportsound prior to the Rangers game, he said: “Motherwell were outstanding. It was the polar opposite of the scale in terms of a side that had clarity from the manager, execution was perfect, to a side that has a manager that in his interview on Friday says he can’t talk but then does one answer for seven minutes. Talks about having clarity, talks about being clear in what he wants yet on the park you’ve got a team that look the polar opposite of Motherwell. A side that do not know what is expected of them.

He talks about so much yet doesn’t actually say anything. I’m at a loss as to what it is that he’s looking to try to do. Tom English was just pointing out that in the interview he suggested that the shape and the system was only to blame for one goal in his time at the club. That is absolute gobbledygook. That is total nonsense of the highest order and if you’re a player and you’re in the changing room and you’re hearing the manager coming out with stuff like that, I cannot see this team having any belief in the manager.

His time at that club is done. I said before the cup final, if he loses the cup final, it’s a matter of time. There is not a single thing that has made me doubt that. Only seeing things to reinforce that belief.

Will Wilfried Nancy leave Celtic?

That Wilfred Nancy is a busted flush, should never have had the job in the first place, is so far out of his depth, and every single person that was involved in bringing him to Celtic should be shown the door as well. Rangers at the start of the season made a monumental mistake on a number of fronts and credit to the hierarchy there, because they bit the bullet and they made a change and they did it quickly. Not just the manager, the director of football, the whole thing. Things that were unprecedented.

To see a director of football go within four months, you don’t see that. Celtic desperately need, if they’ve got any hope of progressing the club, they need to be making changes on multiple fronts. He might win and it might buy him a bit more time but he’s not turning the corner, no way, we know what football is like.

Football is a small world and people talk. From what we hear, and rom what we see, it’s done and there’s no coming back from it. Wilfried Nancy has come into Celtic and obliterated the team. That is some achievement to have done it in such a short space of time.
