The Green Brigade have released a fresh update on their ongoing ban from Celtic matches, as the dispute between the supporter group and the club continues without resolution.
Since November, around 250 fans connected to the group have been barred from both home and away fixtures, with a section of the Safe Standing area at Celtic Park closed as a result. The absence has been widely felt, with the matchday atmosphere at Celtic Park noticeably affected during a critical stage of the title race.
Three weeks after their last meeting with club representatives, the Green Brigade issued a statement through the North Curve Celtic account on X. They noted that the Motherwell fixture on 14th March will mark the 30th game played during what has now become an 18-week suspension. The group described the collective punishment as fundamentally unfair, pointing out that those affected were denied any involvement in the investigation, given no right of reply, offered no means of appeal, and received only limited communication throughout the process. They also noted that the stated rationale for the ban has shifted on multiple occasions.
The group confirmed that a meeting took place with Celtic on 12th February in an attempt to find a way forward, and that a further meeting has been scheduled for Monday 9th March, arranged only after the Green Brigade sent three separate emails seeking clarity. While they expressed cautious hope that some progress may have been made, they said they remain sceptical, particularly given the club’s reluctance to share details of any outstanding concerns ahead of the meeting. The statement also included a timeline of events, with the group emphasising that they raised their concerns with the club’s Supporter Liaison Officer immediately after the incident that triggered the ban.
The Celtic Fans Collective have also addressed the situation in the minutes from their most recent meeting with the club. They told board member Brian Wilson directly that the absence of the Green Brigade was having a measurable negative impact on the atmosphere and, by extension, on the team’s performances. Wilson acknowledged that dialogue is continuing and that progress had been made in one area, while a second strand of the discussion remains more complicated. He also confirmed that Head of Security Mark Hargreaves does not hold the power of veto over any final decision on the group’s return.
