Comedian Neil Delamere couldn’t resist taking a swipe at the Ibrox club while sharing a joke with a national audience.
The Irish stand-up revealed Rangers were the punchline to his gag about Snoop Dogg potentially becoming an investor in Celtic.
Delamere explained he had joked about the legendary rapper’s pledge to get involved with the Premiership champions – before Snoop eventually invested his money in Swansea.
And Delamere’s quip came as Martin O’Neill sat in the front row at a black tie dinner event in Ireland.
Despite the comic’s one-liner, Rangers have secured major investment from the United States through the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh pouring millions into the Ibrox side as they aim to capture the Premiership title in their first campaign since the takeover.
Delamere said his joke went down well as he recalled the story during his guest appearance on Channel 4’s Countdown.
He said:, “I hosted the Ulster GAA all-star awards, a big deal, if you are brilliant at Gaelic sports, you were at that night, a black tie event. I noticed Martin O’Neill, ex-Ireland manager, he was brilliant craic.
“There was a story at the time that Snoop Dogg was going to buy into Celtic, did you see this story? Snoop Dogg would buy into Celtic, 50 Cent would buy Rangers. Not the rapper, 50 Cent would buy Rangers. At GAA, that’s an absolute winner.”
The remark amused Countdown host Colin Murray as Delamere enjoyed retelling his story from the awards evening.
Although Snoop Dogg eventually invested in Swansea, he has continued to follow his favourite Scottish team closely.
He also expressed his “big respect” for O’Neill after he returned to Celtic for the first time following Brendan Rodgers’ controversial departure.
