Danny Rohl is experiencing the unavoidable pressure that comes with managing Rangers ahead of their vital Scottish Cup quarter-final showdown with Celtic.
Some reports have indicated that a season without silverware at Ibrox could result in the manager being dismissed, with both the Scottish Cup and Premiership title still up for grabs.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, there is currently no expectation that Rohl’s position is under threat.
The manager has earned strong praise for the work he has done since replacing Russell Martin considering where the club stood before his appointment in October.
Any claims that Rangers might begin searching for a new manager have been rejected, with preparations being made for a long-term project led by Rohl.
Rangers make decision about Danny Rohl’s future
As Football Insider reported, Rangers have criticised Danny Rohl following their 2-2 draw with Celtic last weekend after having led the match 2-0.
However, he will be given the opportunity to respond in their upcoming Scottish Cup quarter-final, which many believe could be a must-win fixture for the manager.
Rangers currently sit six points behind league leaders Hearts, and an exit from the cup would only increase the pressure, but the club are not reviewing Rohl’s position.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Look, there’s always pressure if you’re managing a big club like Rangers.
“There’s a huge Old Firm game coming up in the Scottish Cup, it’s a chance to knock out your rivals and move closer to picking up a piece of silverware.
“There was a bit of frustration last week when they were 2-0 against Celtic and got pegged back to draw that game, but I don’t think there’s any immediate pressure on Danny Rohl.
“He’s done a superb job since he’s taken over, from where he took over and the position Rangers found themselves in, he’s really improved things.
“He’s got them into the title race now when that looked impossible in October.
“Look, there’s always pressure to win trophies as manager of Rangers as there is manager of Celtic. They’re both expected to win every week. So that brings its own pressure.
But I don’t think there’s any extra pressure on Danny Rohl. I think it’ll obviously be a great start for him if they could win a trophy.
“And as I said, I think he’s done a very good job to sort of improve their fortunes from where he found them when he took over.”
Rangers and Celtic race to sign David Watson
Rangers and Celtic are not only battling for trophies in the Premiership and the Scottish Cup this season, but also preparing to strengthen their squads during the summer window.
Both Glasgow clubs are interested in signing Kilmarnock midfielder David Watson and are ready to compete for the out-of-contract player when the transfer window opens.
Football Insider revealed on 4 March that Rangers and Celtic are keen on signing Watson, but the race remains wide open with no clear frontrunner at this stage.
The two Old Firm rivals are currently level in the pursuit, while interest from English clubs is also expected for the 21-year-old, who has impressed at Kilmarnock.
Sources have suggested that Watson would relish the opportunity to play in the Champions League as part of his next move, which could play a crucial role in deciding his future.
