Young Celtic Fans Left Disappointed After Players Ignore Autograph Requests
Two young Celtic supporters were left waiting in vain after first team players appeared to snub their requests for autographs ahead of the club’s match against Dundee United.
A video shared widely on social media showed the Hoops-daft children standing outside the team hotel in freezing temperatures, hoping to meet their heroes before the squad departed for Tannadice. The footage captured the youngsters calling out players’ names, with only Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor acknowledging them with a wave.
According to their father, who posted the clip on TikTok, the boys had waited approximately 40 minutes for the opportunity to secure a selfie or signature. His caption expressed clear frustration: “Kids standing for 40 minutes in the freezing cold and the Celtic players cannot even acknowledge them!”
The incident has sparked debate among supporters. Many expressed sympathy for the disappointed children, with one commenter calling the players’ behaviour “shocking” and another describing it as “ignorant.” Some fans pointed out that without supporter loyalty, players would not enjoy their lucrative careers, suggesting even a brief interaction would have meant the world to the youngsters.
However, others defended the squad’s actions. Several noted that players face strict guidelines limiting autograph signings to prevent merchandise appearing on resale websites. Others argued that pre-match focus takes priority, with one supporter revealing they had been warned beforehand that players would not be stopping for photographs or signatures on matchday.
Scottish Premiership clubs have increasingly discouraged excessive signing sessions in recent seasons as part of efforts to combat the secondary market for memorabilia.
