Celtic goalkeeper Vili Sinisalo has spoken of his sadness following confirmation that veteran teammate Kasper Schmeichel faces an extended absence due to multiple shoulder surgeries.
The 38-year-old Danish international has already undergone his first operation and was pictured with his arm in a sling, with further procedures scheduled. Schmeichel has suggested he could be sidelined for 10 to 12 months, raising serious questions about whether he will play again given his age. His Celtic contract expires this summer.
Sinisalo, who has impressed since stepping into the starting lineup, expressed his concern for the former Leicester City stopper. “I feel sad about what happened to Kasper. The situation is not nice. I hope it’s not a career-ending thing,” the 24-year-old Finnish international told The Herald.
The injury crisis has handed Sinisalo a significant opportunity. He is expected to retain the gloves for the remainder of the season, providing a clear run to establish himself ahead of Celtic’s managerial appointment this summer. “I’ve always wanted to play. When the moment comes, you have to perform and keep the shirt. A goalkeeper is only as good as his last match,” Sinisalo stated.
