Tottenham is on the verge of securing the signing of Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge, poised to outpace Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the pursuit of his signature, as per reports.
Throughout the January transfer window, Spurs have been one of the most proactive clubs in the Premier League, adding Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig until the season’s conclusion and finalizing a £26 million deal for Radu Dragusin from Serie A outfit Genoa. Additionally, under Ange Postecoglou’s management, several players have departed on loan, like Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, and Ashley Phillips, while Hugo Lloris has permanantly moved to Major League Soccer side LAFC.
However, the club’s transfer activities are not yet completed, with reports indicating that they are now on the brink of securing their third signing of the January transfer window. Belgian newspaper HLN has verified that Club Brugge winger Nusa “appears to be on his way to Tottenham,” although the deal “has not been finalized yet.” Nonetheless, it is anticipated that Tottenham will pay the Belgian club €30 million (£26 million) for the winger, who has tallied two goals and two assists in 14 top-flight matches this season.
It’s understood that the €30 million fee “can still increase through bonuses,” as Club Brugge engages in extensive negotiations with the English club. Once the deal is concluded, Tottenham would loan the Norwegian winger back to the Belgian club for the remainder of the season before his relocation to north London in the summer.
Despite Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool showing interest in Nusa, with Chelsea’s €30 million offer being rejected by Brugge on the final day of the summer transfer window, Nusa appears to be nearing his dream transfer to the Premier League, with a move to Tottenham set to be completed in the near future.
After an unsuccessful bid from Chelsea, Nusa shared his thoughts with TV2 in September, stating, “I didn’t know about it. I saw there was a lot of stuff on my phone. My phone exploded after the game. Then I wondered what happened. Then I realised. I already knew that it wasn’t going to happen, but then the money came on the table. Then it’s seen in a slightly different way. We had to have another conversation when the money arrived, but we were on the same page, so there was no problem there. I knew what to do anyway, so it was fine.”
When asked about the specific fee offered by Chelsea, Nusa added, “That’s a lot of money. A lot of money. But I try not to think about it so much. I can’t focus on that, you know. I don’t think it’s good for me. We are talking about very big clubs and that’s where you dream of being in the future. I try not to think about money at all. There’s a lot of money in football, so that’s not what’s on my mind. It’s where I can develop best and become as good as possible.”
